Loch Fyne Fettercairn 24yr

Article based on a PR sample

The Words

Fettercairn is a brand that I think is struggling a bit. They make great whisky, but they’ve been silent on the OB front for a long time. Until the last few years that is. We’ve been treated to a couple of big age statements and some, frankly lovely, NAS bottlings. But they come with a heavy price tag.

Often then, it’s the indie bottler that will come to the rescue. And so we have Loch Fyne (a whisky shop in two real locations and online) bottling an eye-wateringly high number of 24 years.

Aged for the most part in ex-bourbon casks, this single cask whisky has been re-racked into a first fill sauternes cask. A brave move if you ask me, but one that has definitely paid off. And best of all, this is bottled at a cask strength of 53.6%.

For all of this, you’ll be expected to pay a cool £185 for 70cl. That’s a lot of money, especially for me. But when you compare it to the Fettercairn core range (22yr 47% at £165 and 28yr 42% at £400 at time of writing) it actually presents great value for those with enough in their wallet.

The Notes

The nose brings bags of foam bananas, cream cakes and some honey. The palate is sweet with almost a Fruit Salad sweet vibe. It finishes lengthily and with a nice sweetness
