November 2020

Wow, this year is really rocketing forward as we find ourselves staring down the barrel of December and the Xmas period. But before I get too far ahead of myself, I must take a quick look back at November and some of the great whiskies I covered over on YouTube.

As always, I will briefly cover each of the drams in the order I released the video and include a link to said video should you wish to get a bit more info.

First up then is The English Cabernet Sauvignon. This was the October bottling for the Summerton Club and I have to admit I wasn’t sure if I would like it or not when I first opened the package. Since then, I have had to hide it at the back of my collection to help prevent me draining it too quickly. A lovely dram that I will miss when it goes.

The first of two more Game of Thrones reviews this month is the Lagavulin 9 Years (aka House Lannister). As with all of the GoT drams that I have covered, I refused to purchase until I saw them at a reasonable price. When this popped up on a good deal, I bought it (along with the next dram) as it was the last of the range that I was interested in. I have to say, I am in impressed with it. At the price I paid, I would be happy drink this every time I had a hankering for peat.

Another Game of Thrones dram is up next in the Oban Bay Reserve (aka The Nights Watch). The other three I have so far covered were no brainer purchases for me as they are brands that I know and like. Oban is also one of these brands, but this bottling is a little more expensive that its GoT counterparts so required a little more thought. Sadly, it still came in 4th place behind the others. It’s nice dram, with some interesting tasting notes, but I can’t recommend it beyond a single purchase.

Finally then, the winner of Whisky of the Month November 2020 is the Bunnahabhain 27yrs from Heroes and Heretics. When I started NNW, I would have never believed that I would be trying something like this. It’s hard to quantify the quality of a product like this in words so I really do implore you to check my video on it.
