Kentucky Owl The Wiseman
This article is based on a PR sample
The Words
This one was a completely new one for me. I hadn’t heard of the brand or the whisky. But that’s the benefit of getting these samples. I get exposed to a broad spectrum of whisky that I just wouldn’t see otherwise and, in turn, you guys get a bit of content to see what I think of it.
Kentucky Owl is apparently a long standing name in Bourbon before disappearing and then reappearing again, this time as a brand which is a blend of distilleries (rather than a distillery themselves.
What we have here (in some quite excessive packaging) is The Wiseman. A blend of four different bourbons including a high rye and a high wheat. How that actually works together in a finished product I don’t really understand (possibly now its all just even mashbills?) but it is what it is, and I’m here to drink it!
Final stats: it’s 45.54% and sells at around £50-55 for a 70cl in the UK
My tasting notes
Nose: Unmistakable rye, dark cherry, marzipan
Palate: Rye bread, cola bottles, black bepper
