The Words
Tomintoul have been a bit of a sleeper distillery for many years, but under the watchful eye of a keen marketing team, they are slowly bringing themselves out of the shadows and into the light. And quite rightly so.
The bottlings that carry the name Tomintoul also have the moniker “The Gentle Dram” attached owing to the fact that they are generally easy drinking, not too bold in any particular flavour profile and very accessible to newbies and old hands alike. The distiller also produces some incredible peated expressions under the brand Old Balluntruan.
We’re here today to talk about a new release under the Tomintoul name, an 18 year finished in Sauternes casks. This has taken an otherwise typical Tomintoul dram and added in a heap of interesting flavours, while maintaining that accessibility and easy drinking. This is one for the fans of the brand who are looking try something a little (but not too much) different to what they know and love.
